Through the Frances Clark Center Residency Program, area teachers have the opportunity to attend seminars on special topics given by master pedagogues. We welcome Dr. Vanessa Cornett, who will present Contemplative Pedagogy and Teaching Excellence: Mindfulness for Music Instructors and Students on Wednesday, February 5th, from 10:00AM-12:00PM at the New School for Music Study. Outstanding teaching is mindful teaching. Contemplative pedagogy is a philosophy of education that integrates introspection and experiential learning to develop new forms of inquiry, awareness, and imagination. Music teachers can use mindful strategies to cultivate student attention, develop good practice habits, and manage burnout.
Dr. Vanessa Cornett teaches piano and piano pedagogy at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis-St. Paul, where she also serves as the Director of Keyboard Studies. Author of the book The Mindful Musician: Mental Skills for Peak Performance, she has given masterclasses and teacher training workshops across North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australasia. She is a recognized specialist in the areas of performance psychology, contemplative practices in education, and performance anxiety management for musicians.
