Weekly Group + Weekly Private Lesson
Students receive a one-hour group lesson plus a half-hour private lesson each week. Group lessons are devoted to developing complete musicianship. Students become fluent readers, develop a strong rhythmic sense and build a solid technical foundation. In addition, they study keyboard theory, improvising and composing, learn efficient practice skills, and perform music in a wide variety of styles. The private lesson concentrates on individual progress and the development of technical skill, musicianship and expressive performance.
Weekly Private Lesson + Bi-Weekly Repertoire Class
This study plan includes a 45- or 60-minute private lesson weekly, with a repertoire class every other week. In the private lesson, students focus on repertoire from all periods of piano literature and develop technical and musical skills. In class, students enhance their knowledge of the repertoire through hearing performances by their peers and from the comments of the teacher. They also increase their understanding of theory and music history while gaining experience in composing and exploring the rich literature of ensemble music.
Weekly Private Lesson + Bi-Weekly Repertoire Class
The PEPS program identifies and nurtures students whose musical and artistic gifts warrant an accelerated study plan. The program includes a 60-minute private lesson each week, plus a 60-minute repertoire class every other week. Students also participate in partner lessons that occur on a rotating basis with Marvin Blickenstaff, Director of the PEPS program. The bi-weekly repertoire classes enrich students' knowledge of music theory and music history while enhancing performance and critical listening skills. Students in the PEPS program perform regularly and participate in local and state festivals. Placement is by audition.
Weekly Private Lesson + Quarterly Repertoire Class
Offered to beginners as well as advanced pianists, this program provides conventional private piano study for students beyond high school age, with a curriculum planned to meet each student's interests and abilities. An informal group session (repertoire class) is available four times a year providing adults with an opportunity to play for one another.
